Former Vietnam national team head coach Toshiya Miura had to end his work early at the Thailand U20 team and Buriram United Football Academy.
Buriram United announced their farewell to coach Toshiya Miura this afternoon, October 19, exactly seven months since he was announced as the coach of the club's academy and Thailand U20 team on March 19.
Buriram is the most successful club in the Thai League 1 with nine championships, and also has the best academy in the country.
Miura was selected as the first coach of Thailand U20 under the "New Era" project between Buriram Football Academy and the Football Association of Thailand (FAT). The project between Buriram and FAT aims to find the 20 best 17-year-old players, forming a professional training team for three years towards the U20 Asian Cup. Their ambition then is to participate in the final round of the U20 World Cup 2025.
According to Thairath , the project encountered many problems, so Buriram and FAT decided to part ways with coach Miura. This is also the second time the plan has been interrupted.

Toshiya Miura is just one of many Japanese coaches leaving Buriram United in 2023. After the 2022-2023 season, Buriram parted ways with coach Masatada Ishii. The academy also parted ways with coach Masayuki Miura – who is considered a legend with many achievements in youth tournaments.
Coach Toshiya Miura led the national team and the U23 Vietnam team from 2014 to 2016. He helped Vietnam win the bronze medal at the 28th SEA Games in Malaysia, third place at the 2014 AFF Cup and qualified for the 2016 U23 Asian Cup for the first time. However, poor results in the second qualifying round of the 2018 World Cup led to his dismissal in March 2016.
In 2018, Miura returned to Vietnam to lead the newly promoted Ho Chi Minh City Club, which was then managed by President Le Cong Vinh – his favorite student at the national team. However, the coach born in 1963 only led for one season, then parted ways because the results were not as expected.
Returning to Japan, Miura worked as a football commentator. In 2021, he took the position of Technical Director and then Head Coach of Gifu Club in J-League 3, but was also unsuccessful and parted ways in May 2022. After that, Binh Duong contacted Coach Miura but could not agree on a contract.
In the past, Coach Miura was successful with J-League 2 teams such as helping Omiya Ardija to the runner-up position in 2004, Consadole Sapporo to win the championship in 2007. He can speak English fluently, and also possesses an S coaching license - the highest level of JFA and an A license of the European Football Federation UEFA.
