According to the 2024-2025 school year plan just issued by the Hanoi People's Committee, preschool and primary school students will return to school from August 29, with grade 1 students returning earlier, on August 22. Hanoi students will have a holiday on National Day, September 2, according to state regulations.

The opening ceremony will take place on September 5. Semester 1 will end before January 18; semester 2 before May 31, 2025. Students in grades 5 and 9 will be considered for completion of primary and secondary school programs before June 30, 2025. Hanoi will also complete enrollment at the beginning of the school year (grades 1, 6, 10) before July 31.

Previously, the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs announced the National Day holiday schedule for this year's September 2nd for officials, civil servants, public employees and workers of administrative agencies, public service agencies, political organizations, and socio-political organizations from Saturday (August 31) to Tuesday (September 3).

This holiday includes 2 National Day holidays and 2 weekly days off. Thus, civil servants and public employees of administrative agencies, public service agencies, political organizations, and socio-political organizations will have a maximum of 4 days off.

Based on the above schedule, students of all levels in 63 provinces and cities, including Hanoi, will also have 4 consecutive days off for the September 2nd holiday. Secondary and high schools, which have a regular Saturday schedule, will have 3 days off.

The National Day holiday schedule for students can be adjusted based on the specific situation and conditions of each unit and educational institution. Many secondary and high schools have decided to give students 4 consecutive days off, starting from Saturday (August 31) to suit their family schedules, then organize make-up classes the following week.

In the 2024-2025 school year, the number of first and sixth graders in Hanoi will increase by 7,000 and 27,000 respectively compared to the previous school year.

To reduce pressure and student population, especially in inner-city districts, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training coordinates with relevant departments and sectors to re-plan the school network. At the same time, it focuses on reviewing projects that are not guaranteed and behind schedule to reclaim land funds and switch to building schools.

The department has proposed renovating and repairing 123 high schools this year and in 2025. In addition, the city plans to build 16 more schools, including 7 inter-level schools. The total investment for these 139 projects is more than VND8,870 billion.
