Workshop on demonstration model of high quality rice variety Q5 and testing organic Sumo rice variety

On August 30, at An Xuan Rice Production Farm, Xuan Hai Commune (Ninh Hai), the Provincial Agricultural Extension Center coordinated with Binh Dinh Seed Joint Stock Company to organize a field workshop on the demonstration model of high-quality rice variety Q5 and testing the new rice variety Sumo in an organic direction applying the process of "1 must, 5 reductions" combined with the use of microbial fertilizers in the summer-autumn crop 2023.

The new rice varieties Q5 and Sumo were selected and bred by Binh Dinh Joint Stock Company. In the summer-autumn crop of 2023, the Provincial Agricultural Extension Center deployed a demonstration model, with a scale of 2.5 hectares. The model is applied according to the "1 must, 5 reductions" process and the organic rice cultivation process using Trichodema organic fertilizer of Dai Nong Phap Fertilizer Company. Through the actual monitoring period in the field, synthesizing and evaluating the production process, it shows that the Q5 and Sumo rice varieties have a growing period of 95 to 105 days, large stems, height from 98-102 cm, the ability to branch strongly, the rice blooms quickly and concentratedly; the plants are hard, resistant to lodging, adaptable to the fields, less susceptible to rice diseases; reducing the amount of seeds sown, reducing the amount of fertilizer, the number of sprays and reducing production costs, environmentally friendly; the average yield is 7.8 tons/ha...

Through the successful construction of the model, it has opened up opportunities for farmers in the province to visit, learn production experience, gradually expand the planting area, gradually replace traditional rice varieties that have been degraded; at the same time, it has created conditions for Binh Dinh Seed Joint Stock Company and Dai Nong Phat Fertilizer Company to continue implementing the demonstration model of Q5 and Sumo rice varieties in the following crops.
