According to VNA , in episode 123 of the Mann Ki Baat radio program, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said: “You can imagine that in Vietnam, which has a population of about 100 million people, more than 15 million people have seen the relics of the Buddha. The images and videos I saw on social media made me realize that devotion is limitless.
Rain or shine, children, the elderly, the disabled… everyone lined up for hours to pay their respects. The respect of the people there for this pilgrimage was so deep that the Vietnamese government requested an extension of the Buddha relics for another 12 days, and India happily agreed.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi stressed that the initiative to share the sacred relics of Buddha with Vietnam has created a cultural and spiritual phenomenon.

Buddha's relics are enshrined in 9 locations.
Previously, on the occasion of the 2025 United Nations Vesak Festival hosted by Vietnam in Ho Chi Minh City, the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha organized a procession of Buddha's relics (India's national treasure) from India to Thanh Tam Pagoda, Ho Chi Minh City, for monks, nuns, Buddhists, and people to worship.
The Buddha's relics were brought to Tan Son Nhat International Airport by a military plane on the morning of May 2. Escorting the Buddha's relics to Ho Chi Minh City were Mr. Kiren Rijiju - Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Minorities of India, Mr. Kandula Durgesh - Minister of Tourism and Culture of Andhra Pradesh state, along with eminent monks and high-ranking officials of India.
After being enshrined at Thanh Tam Pagoda, the Buddha's relics were brought and enshrined in many other places for monks, nuns, Buddhists, and people to worship, such as: Ba Den Mountain (Tay Ninh), Quan Su Pagoda (Hanoi), Tam Chuc Pagoda (Ha Nam, now Ninh Binh).
After that, the Executive Council of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha requested permission to extend the time to enshrine the Buddha's relics in Vietnam and was approved.
The Buddha's relics were further enshrined from May 22 to June 2 at five pagodas: Bai Dinh Pagoda (Ninh Binh), Phuc Son Pagoda (Bac Giang, now Bac Ninh), Truc Lam Yen Tu Palace (Quang Ninh), Chuong Pagoda (Hung Yen) and Ngu Hanh Son Pagoda (Da Nang).
