Lieutenant Colonel - Hero of the People's Armed Forces Ho Dac Thanh, former captain of the ship No Number and more than 500 Truong Sa veterans, Navy veterans from 23 delegations from 17 provinces and cities across the country attended.
The firm handshakes and bright smiles… seemed to have erased all the fatigue when the soldiers who fought in Truong Sa in the past and are now living in many provinces and cities across the country met today. The veterans recalled stories about the submerged and floating islands in Truong Sa… bringing many emotions.
Mr. Nguyen Hoang Loc, Nghe An province and Mr. Vo Van Gan, Cam Ranh city, Khanh Hoa province said: "I am very excited and happy to meet my comrades again, who fought together in the past."
“I feel very excited, remembering the days of serving on the islands, on the ships, on the decks. Having this meeting today, I really miss the 64 comrades and teammates who sacrificed…”
As for Mr. Tran Van Hung, in Tuy Hoa city, Phu Yen province - who left one leg on the battlefield, his legs are no longer intact, but he tried to walk as close as possible to each of his comrades: "It's been a long time since I've seen all my comrades like this. I'm very happy and excited to see my old comrades"...
36 years ago, in the struggle to protect the island, 64 Navy officers and soldiers, including two sons of Phu Yen, Mr. Phan Tan Du and Mr. Truong Van Thinh, "used blood to build sovereignty markers" and forever remain in the heart of the sea.
At the meeting, Truong Sa veterans and Navy veterans reviewed the heroic and indomitable tradition of the Vietnam People's Navy, shared joys and sorrows, and encouraged each other to improve in life.
Hero of the People's Armed Forces - Lieutenant Colonel Ho Dac Thanh, currently living in Tuy Hoa city, wishes: "All these generations have protected the island to have today. I hope that the younger generations will promote this spirit, strive to protect the sovereignty of the sea and islands of the Fatherland and this is their responsibility."
Tomorrow, the Truong Sa veterans will return to their daily work. But for them, the image of Truong Sa and their beloved comrades... will be the reason for the next reunions.
Also on this occasion, 27 Truong Sa veterans were awarded the Medal “For the cause of protecting the sovereignty of the sea and islands” by the Navy Command, 23 veterans were awarded the Truong Sa Soldier Badge. The Truong Sa Traditional Liaison Committee of Phu Yen Province and benefactors presented 24 gifts to the families of martyrs, wounded soldiers and Truong Sa veterans in difficult circumstances.
