More than 80 billion VND to repair National Highway 51

Báo Giao thôngBáo Giao thông19/12/2024

The Ministry of Transport has allocated VND58.9 billion in 2024 to carry out maintenance, repair and handling of traffic black spots on National Highway 51. In 2025, it will continue to upgrade the road drainage system with a budget of more than VND80 billion.

On December 19, according to news from Ba Ria - Vung Tau province, the Ministry of Transport has just responded to the petition of voters of this province regarding the damage and traffic safety on National Highway 51.

Voters in Ba Ria - Vung Tau have requested the Ministry of Transport to soon take measures to repair, upgrade and improve traffic safety on the route.

Responding to the petition, the Ministry of Transport said it had directed relevant agencies to inspect the situation and propose solutions. The Ministry has allocated VND58.9 billion in 2024 to carry out maintenance, repair and handling of traffic black spots.

In particular, the flood treatment project in Phu My will be implemented with a total cost of 15 billion VND, expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2025. In addition, projects to repair road surfaces, drainage systems, and improve traffic safety will continue to be implemented in 2025 with a total cost of more than 80 billion VND.

Regarding the establishment of property ownership of the BOT project to expand National Highway 51, the Ministry of Transport has coordinated with the Ministry of Finance and investors to resolve problems and complete legal documents to establish public ownership of the project's assets.

Regarding National Highway 51, according to the Road Management Department, this 73.6km long route passing through the two localities of Dong Nai and Ba Ria - Vung Tau is seriously degraded. Currently, the traffic volume through this route is up to 60,500 vehicles/day and night (5-6 times higher than the original design). The National Highway 51 BOT project has also stopped collecting tolls since January 2023, so the investor stopped maintenance to ensure traffic safety.

Maintenance and repair work on National Highway 51 is carried out regularly.

Road Management Area 4 has carried out procedures and submitted to competent authorities for funding to repair urgently damaged sections. However, in reality, this route has been in operation for a long time (10-12 years) and with an increasing number of vehicles, especially heavy trucks, the road surface and drainage system are often damaged...

Therefore, to ensure traffic safety, it is necessary to allocate more funds to continue repairing damage to National Highway 51. In addition, the project also needs to soon complete the procedures for establishing public property ownership to facilitate management work. In the long term, a plan is needed to overhaul and upgrade the entire route.
