In a video statement, Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree said the force had "targeted an Israeli enemy military position in the Jaffa area" with a "ballistic missile that succeeded in reaching its target".

Spokesperson Saree confirmed that Israel's defense system failed to intercept the rocket and the attack forced "more than two million people to run to shelters for the first time in history".

Earlier, Israel announced that a missile from Yemen had landed in an open area, causing no casualties. The incident prompted Israel to activate sirens in the capital Tel Aviv and several central cities. This is the first time a missile from Yemen has reached central Israel.

Immediately, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned that the Houthi forces in Yemen would pay a heavy price after the attack on Israeli territory.

Speaking at a regular cabinet meeting, Mr. Netanyahu stressed: "The Houthis should have known that Israel would respond strongly."

The Israeli Prime Minister also affirmed that the tense situation in the North of the country "will not continue" and pledged to do everything possible to bring evacuees back home.
