iPhone is about to have a feature to help reduce motion sickness

For people with motion sickness, dizziness and nausea often occur when reading a book or looking at the phone while the car is moving.

Usually, there are only a few solutions such as stopping reading, looking at the phone screen and switching to listening to music, or taking motion sickness pills but it is easy to experience drowsiness and lack of alertness.

However, tech giant Apple is about to come up with a new solution.

Called “Vehicle Motion Cues,” this is a new accessibility feature that is expected to appear in a future iPhone iOS software update.

A future iOS update will add a feature to help reduce motion sickness.

This feature is based on research showing that the cause of motion sickness is a state of “sensory conflict” due to the movement sensed in the eyes and the sensation felt in the muscles conflicting with each other.

Vehicle Motion Cues works by using iPhone and iPad sensors like the accelerometer and gyroscope.

The information is then used to create a series of animated dots on the edges of the screen, to represent changes in the vehicle's motion.

The dots will respond to the car turning left, right, accelerating and braking. The dots move in the opposite direction of the car, corresponding to the inertial force felt by the passenger.

In theory, this should help reduce motion sickness. Apple says it looked at the latest published research when developing the feature.

Apple has not announced a specific launch date for the motion sickness reduction feature, only revealing that it will be “coming later this year.” Sources predict that it could be in September when iOS 18 is introduced, or closer to the launch of the iPhone 16.
