Iraq challenges coach Kim Sang-sik, calls 'all' stars who have caused sadness to the Vietnamese team

Báo Thanh niênBáo Thanh niên24/05/2024

First, two players who scored against the Vietnamese team at the 2023 Asian Cup (goalkeeper Nguyen Filip), including striker Ayman Hussein and defender Rebin Sulaka, are both on the list of 27 Iraqi players preparing for the matches against Indonesia on June 6 and against the Vietnamese team on June 11. In addition, the player who scored against the team led by Philippine coach Troussier (goalkeeper at that time was Dang Van Lam) in the match of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, which took place in November 2023, striker Mohanad Ali is also on the list of 27 Iraqi players.

Among the players mentioned above, Aymen Hussein is the player who is still playing and has scored the most goals (25 goals) for the Iraqi national team. Mohanad Ali is second on this list with 20 goals for the national team. This is also the most dangerous striker pair in Iraqi football today.

Aymen Hussein (number 18) is a dangerous striker of the Iraqi team.

Many stars who participated in the 2023 Asian Cup of the Iraqi team were called up for the next matches in the World Cup qualifiers, notably including captain goalkeeper Jalal Hassan, right-back Hussein Ali, left-back Ahmed Yahya, center-back Fran Putros, Akam Hashim, midfielders Bashar Resan, Zidane Iqbal, Amir Al-Ammari, Ali Jasim, Youssef Amyn, Osama Rashid.

Overall, the core of the Iraqi team remains the same, although they have some rejuvenation. Of the 27 Iraqi players called up to play against Indonesia and the Vietnamese team, a total of 11 are playing abroad, including 6 players playing in Europe and 4 players playing for clubs in Korea, Thailand, Qatar, Iran, and New Zealand.

The young faces who are joining the Iraqi national team for the first time include defender Ahmed Maknzi, midfielder Marko Farji, Mohamed Al-Taay, or goalkeeper Kumel Al-Rekabe and Hussein Hassan. Iraq's serious preparation for the rematch with the Vietnamese team also reflects that they will play seriously for the match on June 11 in Basra (Iraq).

The fact that Iraq kept the same core force compared to the 2023 Asian Cup earlier this year also partly reflects the team's playing style under coach Jesus Casas (Spanish) with little change. It will most likely still be a wide-open style of play, trying to take advantage of speed and strength in attacks.

Coach Jesus Casas still proves his talent in the Iraq team

Therefore, the Vietnamese team still needs to be well prepared for the match against the opponent from West Asia. Coach Kim Sang-sik's team has very little chance of advancing to the World Cup qualifiers, but we will not easily have matches of the scale like the upcoming match against a strong opponent with Iraq, so the Vietnamese team can take advantage of this opportunity to help the players hone their skills and playing style, preparing for the next international tournaments.
