Israel may launch preemptive strike on Iran's nuclear facilities in the first half of 2025

(CLO) According to US intelligence agencies, Israel is considering launching a preemptive strike on Iran's nuclear facilities within the first 6 months of 2025.

The report was released in the final days of President Joe Biden's administration and continued to be confirmed in the early days of President Donald Trump's term.

According to intelligence, Israel could target Iran’s two key nuclear facilities, Fordow and Natanz. To carry out this plan, Tel Aviv needs support from Washington, including providing weapons, intelligence, as well as air refueling support.

US military experts assess that Israel can choose one of two attack options.

The first option is a long-range strike using ballistic missiles launched from fighter jets, targeting Iran's nuclear facilities without entering its airspace.

The second option is riskier, which is that Israel would send fighter jets into Iranian airspace, approach the target and use BLU-109 bunker-buster bombs to attack.

Notably, last week, the Trump administration approved the sale of guidance systems for this type of bomb to Israel, further strengthening the possibility of implementing the second option.

The intelligence report comes as President Donald Trump recently said he would rather seek a deal with Iran over its nuclear program than let Israel unilaterally attack Tehran.

During his first term in 2018, Mr. Trump withdrew the US from the 2015 Iran nuclear deal. He then reimposed strict sanctions, under a policy of "maximum pressure" against Tehran.

In response, Iran has gradually scaled back its compliance with the deal and recently notified the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) of plans to "significantly increase" its production of enriched uranium to 60%.
