According to Al Arabiya, on April 16, the Israeli Foreign Ministry launched a " diplomatic offensive" against Iran by calling on 32 countries to impose sanctions on the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and Tehran's missile program.

Commenting on social network X, Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz wrote: “In addition to the military response to the missile and drone launches, I am leading a diplomatic offensive against Iran… This morning, I sent letters to 32 countries and spoke with dozens of foreign ministers and leading figures around the world, calling for sanctions against Iran’s missile project and designating the IRGC as a terrorist organization.”

In another development, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Grossi said that Iran has temporarily shut down its nuclear facilities due to “security considerations” after the country launched a large-scale missile and drone attack on Israel over the weekend.

Earlier, in a phone call with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said that the activities of the Iranian armed forces were within the framework of the legitimate right to self-defense and international law following Israel's attack on the consular building of the Iranian Embassy in Syria. For his part, Secretary-General Guterres called on all relevant parties in the region to continue to exercise restraint; welcomed Iran's cessation of further anti-Israel activities, and called on Israel not to take any retaliatory actions to reduce tensions in the region, support the establishment of peace and prevent the spread of violence.
