A large collection of artworks and artifacts related to French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte was auctioned for a total value of more than $10 million in Paris, according to information from auction house Sotheby's.
Sotheby's said it initially estimated the collection of more than 110 artifacts associated with French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte at only about $7 million.

Among the items sold are an iconic double-horned hat worn by Emperor Napoleon, famous 19th-century paintings of the French emperor, gilded royal furniture, and a copy of the marriage certificate between Emperor Napoleon and his wife Josephine.

In addition, this collection also includes Emperor Napoleon's first will - written while he was exiled on the island of Saint Helena in the Atlantic Ocean, the sword and scepter used in the coronation ceremony at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris in 1804.
This collection formerly belonged to Pierre-Jean Chalençon - France's most famous antique collector.
The collection was exhibited in Hong Kong and New York before returning to Paris for auction. Pierre-Jean Chalençon is also selling the Palais Vivienne – the mansion he bought in 2015 and turned into a “shrine” to Napoleon – to pay off a debt of 10 million euros.
In France, artifacts related to Emperor Napoleon regularly appear at auctions, where the market for these collectibles is thriving with great interest from collectors.

In late May, a sword belonging to Emperor Napoleon was sold at another auction in Paris for 4.6 million euros, nearly setting a new record for an item associated with the famous French emperor.
Princess Diana's belongings also up for auction
In another development, on June 27, Julien's auction house website announced that it had just auctioned the largest collection of Princess Diana's costumes and belongings in Los Angeles (USA).
More than 320 items were auctioned on June 26, including the Princess's personal items such as postcards, notes and books as well as objects related to Queen Elizabeth II and other members of the British Royal Family.

Other notable sales included the cream silk dress the Princess wore to dinner in Saudi Arabia in 1986, which sold for $455,000 (estimate $200,000-300,000) and her favorite bright red nylon ski suit, which sold for $325,000.
One of her signature sweatshirts sold for $221,000, exceeding its estimate of $10,000-20,000.
Julien's Auctions sold one of the Princess's evening dresses for a record $1.14 million in 2023 and some of her shoes for $390,000 in 2024.
