Previously, answering Tuoi Tre Online on April 12, the director of the Cinema Department said that the department had not yet reviewed Truong Minh Quy's film to evaluate it because:
"The film version sent by the producer to the Cinema Department is faulty, so the appraisal and classification council has not been able to view the film yet. The department is currently requesting that the film version be sent for appraisal."
To date, "the department has completed its review of this film and decided not to grant a distribution license," he said.
In April, the film Viet and Nam by director Truong Minh Quy was announced by the 2024 Cannes Film Festival to be in the Un Certain Regard category.
The 77th Cannes Film Festival will take place from May 14 to 25.
American filmmaker and actress Greta Gerwig is the president of the jury for the official Competition category.
Canadian director Xavier Dolan is president of the jury for the Un Certain Regard category.
According to information from Cannes, there are 15 films from participating countries competing in the Un Certain Regard category.

Un Certain Regard is loosely translated by filmmakers as Unique Perspective. This is the second most important category after the official competition category of the annual Cannes Film Festival.
Un Certain Regard was first introduced by veteran French director Gilles Jacob in 1978. Each year, Un Certain Regard introduces 20 films with unusual styles, carrying "non-traditional" stories seeking international recognition.
At this film festival last year, the Camera D'or (Golden Camera) award was given to the debut film Inside the Golden Cocoon by director Pham Thien An.
