The competition aims to discover and nurture young human resources with cybersecurity capacity, while creating a healthy academic playground, connecting students nationwide.
Mr. Vu Ngoc Son, Head of NCA's Technology Research Department, announced the content of the 2025 National Cyber Security Competition for Students. |
Especially in the context that Vietnam is facing a shortage of up to 700,000 cybersecurity personnel in the next three years, while cyber attacks are becoming increasingly sophisticated thanks to the support of artificial intelligence (AI).
The highlight of this year's season is that for the first time, students are allowed to use AI to support solving challenges, reflecting the trend of digital transformation and modernization of cybersecurity training in Vietnam.
Mr. Vu Ngoc Son, Head of NCA's Technology Research Department, emphasized: "The competition is special because it is the first time AI has participated and students of any major can register.
Not only domestic teams, this year there are also students from ASEAN countries, Russia, Australia... creating opportunities for international exchange and competition.
Candidates will participate in challenges such as exploiting vulnerabilities, decoding data, investigating numbers, reverse engineering, etc. Applying AI helps increase processing speed, but the organizers also proactively set "traps" to test candidates' critical thinking ability and response skills in situations where AI can be fooled.
This helps students not only know how to use AI but also understand its limits, risks and how to coordinate between technology and human thinking.
This year’s competition is open to all participants, with no restrictions on majors or school years. Each team consists of four members from the same school, and schools can register an unlimited number of teams.
In addition to domestic teams, international students are also invited to participate, contributing to building a more diverse and professional cybersecurity community. The two main competition formats are CTF (Capture The Flag) and Attack & Defense.
In the CTF section, candidates will practice skills such as vulnerability exploitation, encryption, reverse engineering, digital forensics, malware analysis and incident response - practical skills that are in high demand in the labor market.
The Attack & Defense section simulates real-life confrontations where teams must both defend their own systems and find ways to attack their opponents' systems, helping to train overall thinking about cyber defense and attack.
The preliminary round will take place online on the nCademy platform in late September 2025. The national final round is scheduled to be held in October 2025 in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
This is also a side event to celebrate the signing ceremony of the Hanoi Convention. Attack & Defense teams will compete in Hanoi. CTF teams will compete in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
The total value of the cash prize is up to 220 million VND. In addition, the winning teams will have the opportunity to practice at cybersecurity companies that are members of NCA.
