Mr. Tran Cong Danh, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Kien Giang province, said that Kien Giang currently leads the country in the number of bird's nest houses with 2,995 houses, with a total floor area of 730,630m2 . Of which, there are 1,721 solidly built houses and 1,274 renovated houses. The number of bird's nest houses concentrated in Rach Gia city is 872 houses, Hon Dat 708 houses, Ha Tien 232 houses. The bird's nest output in 2022 is over 17.5 tons; the first 8 months of 2023 is estimated at 8 tons, reaching 46% of the yearly plan.

According to the Protocol signed between the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam and the General Administration of Customs of China (effective from November 2022), bird's nests exported to this market must meet 3 criteria: Disease surveillance for export; food safety surveillance; and breeding facilities are granted codes.

Regarding disease monitoring, bird nest owners register online, the monitoring period is 12 months from the first sampling, frequency is 6 months/time, cost is about 5 million VND/year.

Regarding food safety, 9 indicators will be monitored (including: Nitrite, salmonella, lead, arsenic, mercury, cadmium, antimony, hydrogen peroxide and bleach). The sample weight is 50-100g/sample, the monitoring frequency is 2 times/year. The monitoring agency is the Veterinary Department of Region VII (in Can Tho ).

Regarding the code issuance, because the regulation is still in the draft stage, it is not yet official. However, for now, owners of bird nest farms need to comply with local farming area planning; comply with regulations on noise level and loudspeaker time; record and store information on bird nest farming activities for export (according to the form prescribed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development).

At the same time, send a declaration form of bird's nest farming activities to the People's Committee at the commune level (according to the form). Including the following information: Name of the facility owner, address, phone number, year of operation, total floor area, and the output of bird's nests harvested in kg/year.
