Previously, due to its small size, Dien Bien airport was only suitable for small aircraft such as ATR-72, Embraer 190... Up to now, Dien Bien airport has increased the runway length to 2,400m, meeting technical standards for Airbus A321, A320 and equivalent aircraft.
Flight VN1802 operated by Vietnam Airlines took off from Hanoi at 10:00 and landed at Dien Bien airport after nearly 1 hour of flight.
The safe operation of jet aircraft at Dien Bien airport is considered an important milestone in Vietnam's aviation industry, as well as opening up new development opportunities for the economy and society of Dien Bien province.
From December 2, Vietnam Airlines will continue to operate commercial flights to and from Dien Bien airport. In the first phase, the airline will operate daily flights between Hanoi and Dien Bien with a frequency of 7 flights/week.
Regarding the schedule, flight VN1802 will depart from Hanoi at 13:05 and land in Dien Bien at 14:05. In the opposite direction, flight VN1803 will take off from Dien Bien at 14:45 and land in Hanoi at 15:35.
Vietnam Airlines is currently offering promotional fares (including taxes and fees) from Hanoi to Dien Bien with economy class starting at only VND 725,000/way and business class starting at only VND 1.9 million/way.
Tickets are available for sale from now until December 28 and are applicable to flights departing from December 2 to December 28. Customers can buy tickets at ticket offices, official agents or on the website and mobile app of Vietnam Airlines.

The Dien Bien Airport expansion investment project was started on January 22, 2022 with a total investment of more than VND 1,467 billion from the capital of Vietnam Airports Corporation. This is one of the projects to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Dien Bien Phu victory.
The project includes a 35-17 runway measuring 2400mx45m, a turntable at both ends, a cement concrete structure ensuring the operation of A320/A321 aircraft or equivalent; 7.5m wide material shoulders on each side, brake strips at both ends of the runway measuring 60x100m and construction of a CAT I approach lighting system...
The passenger terminal has a capacity of 500,000 passengers per year. The terminal is designed with 2 floors, of which the first floor includes: the lobby roof area, the departure passenger area and the arrival passenger area. The second floor is the waiting area, business class lounge, commercial service area and auxiliary areas.
