About 2/3 of tourists coming to Lao Cai stay overnight. Statistics show that the average room occupancy rate in the whole province during the holiday is over 75%; in particular, at Sa Pa National Tourist Area, it is about 80-85%.
Compared to the same period in 2023, the number of visitors and tourism revenue of Lao Cai during the Lunar New Year this year increased slightly, quite close to the forecast of localities and functional sectors.
Through assessment, thanks to proactive and early implementation of the plan, the general situation of this year's destinations in Lao Cai is civilized, safe, and in accordance with legal regulations.
According to Mr. Ha Van Thang - Director of Lao Cai Province Department of Tourism, after the Lunar New Year, there is still a large flow of visitors to Lao Cai for spring travel. According to a synthesis of accommodation establishments from 3 stars and above, the number of guests booking rooms in advance for the whole month of January is from 65 - 75%. In a total of more than 80 festival, cultural, artistic and sports activities in Lao Cai before, during and after the Lunar New Year, there are still many events that have not taken place, which are opportunities for tourists to experience such as Gau Tao festival, Xuong Dong festival, Sa Pa Mother Goddess Worship Festival, Thuong Temple Festival...
"Through our understanding, we see that international and domestic travel agencies and tour guides have a very high spirit; homestay and accommodation establishments have focused on improving and ensuring conditions for welcoming guests during the Lunar New Year and throughout January. Lao Cai Department of Tourism has also coordinated with other sectors to conduct inspections before, during and after Tet. Before Tet, we also disciplined and handled a number of units that did not comply with current regulations," said Mr. Ha Van Thang.
