PSSI severely punishes PSIS Semarang Club

In the match between PSIS Semarang Club and PSS Sleman (1-0) on December 3rd in the Indonesian Liga 1, during the extra minutes, fans of the two teams were sitting too close to each other in the stands and exchanged provocative words. The incident then erupted into a riot with fights between fans of the two teams spilling out from the stands onto the field.

According to CNN Indonesia, CEO of PSIS Semarang Club, Mr. Yoyok Sukawi, was hit in the head by a foreign object thrown by a fan of the visiting team PSS Sleman, requiring 8 stitches.

After the incident, PSSI and the Liga 1 organizing committee issued a notice to tighten all security measures. In particular, an absolute ban was issued on fans bringing sharp objects into the stadium, and on hanging flags and banners with offensive slogans. Or songs with political colors, attacking opposing fans. In addition, acts of lighting flares, shining laser lights... are also absolutely prohibited.

Next, PSSI soon announced the decision to severely punish PSIS Semarang Club to set an example, which is to play in empty stadiums until the end of the 2023-2024 season. The Indonesian Liga 1 season ends in April 2024. Therefore, with PSSI's disciplinary decision, PSIS Semarang Club will suffer a lot of financial damage when losing a lot of revenue from home ticket sales.
