Hai Phong FC had a very favorable start in the group stage of the 2023/2024 AFC Cup (Asian Cup C2) with a 3-0 victory over PSM Makassar.

Before entering the AFC Cup journey, Hai Phong FC had impressive performances in the Asian Cup C1 qualifiers and that was the motivation for the Hai Phong team to play well against opponent PSM Makassar (Indonesia) in the opening match tonight (September 21).
With the advantage of the "fire pan" Lach Tray and the fact that the opponent was not too strong, coach Chu Dinh Nghiem and his team rushed to attack right after the referee's starting whistle.
In the 6th minute, Huu Son had the ball on the right wing, skillfully dribbled past the opposing defender before finishing with his right foot in the penalty area but failed to score.
Exactly 1 minute later, Huu Son received the ball from Mpande and scored against PSM Makassar, opening the score for Hai Phong FC.
With the lead, Hai Phong played even more excitedly. Meanwhile, it was not until the last minutes of the first half that the away team had 1-2 dangerous situations.
In the 56th minute, Hoang Nam passed the ball from the left wing for Trong Dai to comfortably run in and shoot close to the goal, but the ball went too inaccurately.
In the 73rd minute, Hai Phong fans had another chance to celebrate a goal. Luong Hoang Nam finished beautifully, scoring against PSM Makassar, doubling the gap for the home team at Lach Tray Stadium.
Not yet, in the 85th minute, Hoang Nam broke through and was fouled by a PSM Makassar defender in the penalty area and the referee pointed to the penalty spot. On the 11m mark, Mpande easily beat the away team's goalkeeper, sealing a convincing 3-0 victory for Hai Phong FC.
