How will floods on rivers in the Northern region develop in the coming days?

Việt NamViệt Nam13/09/2024

Expert Hoang Van Dai - Deputy Director of the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting (General Department of Hydro-Meteorology, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment ) at 9:00 a.m. on September 13, said that flood water levels on most rivers in the North are showing a downward trend. Today and the next few days, flood water on many rivers will continue to decrease, staying above alert levels 1 and 2.

However, the process of flood drainage and reduction on the Red River system is likely to be slow, so flooding will continue for many days in low-lying areas, low-lying areas along rivers, and alluvial areas outside the main dike in Hanoi, Bac Giang, Bac Ninh, Thai Nguyen, Ninh Binh, Nam Dinh, Thai Binh , Ha Nam, and Hai Duong.

Specifically, Mr. Dai said that at 7:00 a.m. this morning, the water level on the Cau River at Dap Cau was 7.66m, about 1.36m above alert level 3; on the Thuong River at Phu Lang Thuong 6.95m, 0.65m above alert level 3; on the Luc Nam River at Luc Nam 6.23m, 0.07m below alert level 3; on the Hoang Long River at Ben De 4.82m, 0.82m above alert level 3.

The water level on the Thai Binh River at Pha Lai is 6.04m, 0.04m above alert level 3; on the Red River in Hanoi it is 10.02m, 0.48m below alert level 2.

It is forecasted that in the next 12 hours (from 9:00 to 21:00 today), flood on Luc Nam River will drop below alert level 3; Cau River at Dap Cau, Thuong River at Phu Lang Thuong, Luc Nam River at Luc Nam, Hoang Long River at Ben De will continue to drop but still above alert level 3; flood on Red River in Hanoi will drop to alert level 1.

In the next 12-24 hours (from 9:00 p.m. on September 13 to 9:00 p.m. on September 14), floods on Cau River, Thuong River and Hoang Long River will continue to recede but will remain above alert level 3; Luc Nam River and Thai Binh River will continue to recede but will remain above alert level 22; floods on Red River in Hanoi will fall below alert level 1.

According to the forecast of the Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, from the night of September 14-22, the Northern and North Central regions will have scattered showers and thunderstorms (particularly around September 15-16, the Northern region is likely to have scattered showers and thunderstorms).

Mr. Dai emphasized that with the forecasted decrease in rain in the coming days, the flooding situation in low-lying areas along the river will gradually improve.

Specifically, the water outside the Red River dike in Hanoi will be drained in the next 2-3 days; low-lying areas in Chuong My along the Bui River will be drained in 10-13 days; Tich River about 7-10 days; downstream of Ca Lo River 3-5 days; Nhue River in the next 2-3 days.

In the downstream riverside areas of the Red River and Thai Binh River (in the provinces of Bac Giang, Bac Ninh, Ha Nam, Ninh Binh, Nam Dinh, Hung Yen, Thai Binh, and Hai Duong), the water withdrawal time is forecast to last longer, for the next 3-6 days.

“However, the flood level in the downstream of the Red River is currently high, so there is still a risk of affecting riverbank dykes and landslides at key locations in the provinces/cities of Hanoi, Ha Nam, Nam Dinh, Hai Duong, Hung Yen, Thai Binh, and Ninh Binh,” emphasized Hoang Van Dai, Deputy Director of the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.

In addition, Mr. Dai also noted that the water level in the river is at a high level, causing deep flooding, flooding of riverside areas, low-lying areas, and widespread flooding in some agricultural and aquaculture production areas.

Many residential areas of the above localities can endanger people's lives and production, threaten people's lives and property, affect waterway traffic, aquaculture, agricultural production and socio-economic activities, especially in the lower reaches of the Red River - Thai Binh River./.
