MacBook Air M2 15 inch is very difficult to disassemble

Báo Thanh niênBáo Thanh niên18/06/2023

Apple may have listened to its customers by releasing a larger 15-inch MacBook Air, but like recent models, it’s made it very difficult to take apart. In a new video , iFixit confirms that the chassis is held together with a number of screws of varying shapes and sizes, making the process as difficult as possible.

To open the 15-inch MacBook Air, you need to remove a few pentagon screws and use a piece of hard plastic that resembles a guitar pick to pry off the bottom cover, then begin the process of disassembling the device piece by piece. This process is a painful experience, with many screws to remove, and many clips to remove from various parts of the machine.

iFixit website commented that disassembling the MacBook Air 15 inch M2 will be very difficult.

Apple hasn’t made it easier to remove the logic board, and it seems the company wants to discourage third-party repairs by keeping this method for future models. According to a video by Max Tech, the 15-inch MacBook Air has a smaller M2 logic board than the 13-inch model.

Another component of the latest MacBook Air for 2023 is a battery that is up to 66.5 WHr, 25% larger than the 13-inch version. Despite the larger battery, both machines can use 15-18 hours on a single charge. However, the advantage is that Apple has added more cells (in the battery) on the 15-inch machine, iFixit believes that helps the machine charge faster.

iFixit gives the 15-inch MacBook Air a repairability score of 3 out of 10. Despite Apple's latest machine boasting a significantly larger screen, third-party repair shops will have a hard time with it.
