Man Thai, rustic features in the heart of the city

The history of Man Thai village began more than three centuries ago, when immigrants from Russia and America (Thanh Hoa) migrated to the South to find land to build villages and reclaim land.

Sea village community

Man Thai is located in Son Tra ward - the most developed coastal tourist center of Da Nang. Among high-rise hotels and busy roads, the village still retains its rustic, rural appearance.

Here, every small roof, every mossy wall or every old communal house or mausoleum carries a story, a beauty that endures over time.

The Man Thai culture is closely linked to the seafaring profession. The Cau Ngu Festival is considered the soul of the fishermen's spiritual life and is held annually in early spring, which is also the beginning of the seafood harvest season.

Not only is the festival a spiritual ritual to pray for a favorable fishing season, it is also an opportunity for the community to remember their ancestors, those who discovered and built this land.

Each festival season is an occasion for Man Thai village to light up like a song of the sea, connecting the past and present in the joy of reunion with typical folk activities such as singing bai choi, hat ba trao, cheo, tuong, and games of pushing sticks, carrying fish, rowing baskets, tug of war...

One of the typical images of the fishing village of Man Thai is the fish market on the beach. When the city is still asleep, it is also the time when fishermen start to return after a night at sea. Around 3-4 am, in the dim light, the whole beach is bustling with baskets carrying fish and shrimp from boats to shore, bustling with the excited calls of both buyers and sellers, creating a symphony of simple and lively daily life.

That small market is not only a place for the fishermen to make a living, but also a familiar meeting place for many tourists. Some people wake up early to buy fresh seafood, others stop by not to buy or sell anything but just to satisfy their passion for discovering a rustic feature in the heart of the coastal city.

The night fish market becomes a place for exchange between villagers and tourists from all over, allowing them to immerse themselves in this unique commercial space and clearly feel the life of a peaceful fishing village community. When the fish market gradually closes, it is also the time of dawn, and tourists can begin to enjoy a new day on the coast of Man Thai.

Ideal tourist destination

The rapid development of the coastal area of Son Tra does not overshadow the unique charm of Man Thai, but on the contrary, it enhances the rustic and quiet beauty of the village. With its peaceful scenery, close-knit community and profound indigenous culture, Man Thai is gradually becoming an ideal destination for those who want to escape the hustle and bustle.

Visitors can check-in at the clear blue beach, walk on the colorful mural road, or directly immerse themselves in the life of fishermen through activities such as: pulling nets, rowing, surfing, fishing, sub-sailing, diving, and enjoying fresh seafood that has just arrived at the dock.

Not stopping at traditional experiences, Man Thai today also puts on a modern color through international art and sports events such as the Ironman 70.3 Da Nang, the DANA COLOR RACE stand-up paddleboard race...

One of the most unique highlights of this summer is the outdoor installation exhibition “The Story of the Fishing Village” - an art space inspired by the life, work and beliefs of local fishermen.

The exhibition consists of four main themes: Fish Waves, Going Out to Sea, Salty Flavors and Mural Garden, each area is an emotional visual slice, recreating the journey of making a living, community culture and memories of the fishing village through installation art materials, light and movement.

Familiar images such as baskets, oars, fish sauce jars, and flagpoles are recreated creatively, both bringing a modern feel and preserving the love of the countryside.

The exhibition is a meeting point between the memories of the fishing village and contemporary art, opening up a new perspective on Man Thai for both locals and visitors. This is not only a space for enjoyment, but also a bridge between the traditional soul and the modern world, where indigenous values are told through light, images and emotions.

Amidst the constant development, Man Thai still needs to be preserved as a living memory of Da Nang. Developing tourism associated with cultural preservation, environmental protection and maintaining village traditions will be the way for Man Thai to truly become a destination that is both new and familiar.
