Messi meets his nemesis, details of De Paul's move to Inter Miami revealed

It's time for Messi to rest

Messi has been playing continuously since the end of April, despite being in extremely good form, scoring in his last 6 MLS matches with a total of 11 goals and 4 assists. In the last 5 matches, he has scored a double in each match.

However, in the next away match against FC Cincinnati, the efforts of this famous player alone could not help the team continue to win, while his familiar teammates such as Suarez, Busquets and Jordi Alba had a match that was too weak and lackluster.

Messi's efforts only created a few chances, while FC Cincinnati, with solid play and taking advantage of every mistake in Inter Miami's defense, launched punishments with goals from Evander (2 goals in the 50th and 70th minutes) and Gerardo Valenzuela's goal in the 16th minute, to win a resounding 3-0 victory.

FC Cincinnati is also ranked 2nd in the MLS Eastern Conference standings, with 45 points after 23 matches. Meanwhile, the loss has stopped Inter Miami's recent winning streak at 5 matches. Messi's team currently has 38 points, ranked 5th and still has 3 matches left to play. In the next match, Inter Miami continues to travel to the New York Red Bulls (July 20), then they will play FC Cincinnati again (July 27) at home in the hope of avenging the recent loss.

Meanwhile, good news has also come to Inter Miami and Messi, that is the deal of midfielder De Paul joining the team has been completed. The launch ceremony is expected to be announced at the end of July right before Inter Miami participates in the Leagues Cup.

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, a transfer news expert: "De Paul will join Inter Miami on loan until the end of 2025, with a mandatory buyout clause worth 15 million euros plus bonuses. This is to comply with MLS regulations. From 2026, De Paul will become an official player of Inter Miami under a 4-year contract until 2029. Atletico Madrid has extended De Paul's contract until mid-2027 to legalize the loan."

De Paul’s long-term presence also helps Messi complete a contract extension with Inter Miami for at least one more year, with an option for the following year. Both will be central figures when Inter Miami opens its new Miami Freedom Park stadium in 2026, while Suarez and Busquets have yet to decide on extensions, while Jordi Alba has signed a new contract through 2027.
