On June 27, Lang Son General Hospital announced that according to statistics, from June to now, the hospital has received more than 20 patients bitten by dogs, a four-fold increase compared to previous months.

Most recently, doctors from the Trauma and Burn Department treated patient LTT (37 years old, resident of Hoang Dong commune, Lang Son city) who was bitten by a dog in the right hamstring and lower leg. When admitted to the hospital, this person had a large, crushed wound and damaged tendons.

Doctors had to clean and treat the wound, and prescribe tetanus shots and rabies serum. The patient is currently undergoing treatment.

According to doctors from the Trauma and Burn Department (Lang Son General Hospital), the common point of hospitalizations due to dog bites is that people let their dogs roam free without muzzles. Patients bitten by dogs often have multiple wounds on their bodies. Many children and the elderly also have injuries to their heads, faces, and necks, leaving serious complications.

Summer is also the time when rabies in dogs and cats is at high risk of occurring due to hot weather, pets are easily agitated. In addition, children are on summer vacation, often playing outdoors, and close contact with pets also increases the risk of attack.

Doctors recommend that people need to raise awareness in keeping dogs and cats, not letting them roam freely, always wearing muzzles when going out and regularly getting full rabies vaccinations.

When bitten by a dog or cat, people need to quickly go to the nearest medical facility to have the wound treated properly and get a timely rabies vaccination. Absolutely do not treat the wound at home based on word of mouth experience.
