Sharing with reporters, Master Tran Thanh Hai, Principal of Vien Dong College, said that students of the "College 9+" program study cultural subjects according to the regular education program but participate in the high school graduation exam with the same exam questions as regular high school students.

Students must complete both the cultural program to take the high school graduation exam and accumulate professional knowledge and skills. Specifically, students in grades 10 and 11 must study a vocational course for 4 semesters with a minimum of 50 credits to receive a vocational secondary school diploma. By grade 12, students focus their time on reviewing for the high school graduation exam.

"Although this year's graduation rate is slightly lower than last year, this is the first year of taking the exam according to the 2018 General Education Program, and the number of students taking the exam this year also reached a record (413 candidates). The almost absolute high school graduation achievement is not only the pride of the school but also a strong affirmation of the quality and potential of vocational education in Vietnam" - Master Hai emphasized.

Why can college students take the high school graduation exam?

Currently, many colleges and intermediate schools are implementing the training model "High School + College" or "College 9+". This is an educational program for students graduating from junior high school.

  • Parallel study: Study cultural subjects according to the general education program (equivalent to the GDTX system) to qualify for the high school graduation exam while studying specialized subjects to obtain a vocational secondary school diploma.
  • Common exam: Students can take the high school graduation exam with common exam questions, similar to regular high school students.
  • Save time: Students can get a vocational degree sooner, expand their employment opportunities or transfer to higher education immediately after completing high school.
