The White House said on March 24 that top US administration officials accidentally revealed plans to attack Houthi forces in Yemen in a chat group on the Signal messaging app.

This group includes Mr. Jeffrey Goldberg, Editor-in-Chief of The Atlantic - an American multi-platform magazine and publisher.

In an article about the incident published in The Atlantic, Mr. Jeffrey Goldberg said he was accidentally invited to a secret chat group called "Houthi PC small group" on the Signal messaging app on March 13.

The chat group included US government officials such as National Security Adviser Mike Waltz and the exchange involved plans to bomb Houthi targets in Yemen two days later.

According to Mr. Goldberg, National Security Adviser Mike Waltz directed the establishment of an information exchange group to coordinate the campaign.

Hours before President Donald Trump ordered a large-scale attack on Houthi positions in Yemen on March 15, US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth sent a message in the group with information about the target, the weapons the US would deploy and the sequence of attacks - something Hegseth denied.

While not going into detail, Mr. Goldberg said using the Signal messaging app was “reckless.”

US National Security Council spokesman Brian Hughes said on March 24 that this Signal chat group appeared to be real.

When asked about the incident, President Trump said he had no knowledge of it. A White House official later announced that an investigation was underway and that President Trump had been briefed on the investigation.

Meanwhile, Democratic lawmakers argued that the incident represented a violation of national security and the law, and called on Congress to conduct an investigation.

Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer said this was one of the most shocking military intelligence failures he had ever seen, and called for a full investigation into the incident.

White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt said President Trump still has the utmost confidence in his security team./.
