In an interview with CNN on August 31, Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov said that his country had provided a list of targets deep inside Russian territory for the White House to consider lifting restrictions on the use of long-range offensive weapons. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov warned that European countries would pay a price for following Washington's will in Ukraine.

Mr. Umerov and the Chief of Staff of the Ukrainian President, Mr. Andrei Ermak, are said to be in Washington for negotiations with the US government. Specifically, according to Mr. Umerov, Ukraine wants to lift restrictions on the use of ATACMS missiles.

Earlier, on August 27, Politico, citing multiple sources, reported on Kiev’s plan to provide Washington with a list of attack targets in Russia. The newspaper noted that this was Ukraine’s last attempt to convince the US to lift restrictions on the use of long-range weapons.

The US administration believes that accepting Kiev's request would have no strategic significance for the course of the conflict, since Russia has "left out of reach" the most important targets, including air bases.

However, Kiev has identified a number of targets that it believes could be destroyed using US missiles.

A day earlier, defense ministers of European Union (EU) member states failed to agree on lifting the ban on the use of Western weapons on Russian territory.

Meanwhile, on September 1, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov warned that European countries would pay a price for following Washington's will in Ukraine without considering what is best for them.

Speaking in an interview published on Telegram on September 1, Mr. Peskov said that Europe will have to bear the consequences of its decisions for many years to come and that Russia will do everything necessary to protect its interests.

“European countries, led by the United States, have been immersed in the excitement of this confrontation. They are playing the role that Washington has assigned them in this whole story, to the detriment of their own interests and the taxpayers' wallets. And of course, all this will have serious consequences for them. They are inevitable,” he said.

The spokesman also praised Russia's economic potential as demonstrated by economic growth and mobilization of the national economy .
