US to provide long-range missiles to Ukraine

The JASSM missile could appear in a US arms package for Ukraine this fall. If deployed, the JASSM would give Ukraine a strike range deep into Russian territory, potentially changing the course of the conflict.

This missile can strike Russian military bases and depots hundreds of kilometers away, disrupting Russian military operations.

JASSM has a range of about 300 km, enough to attack Russian military bases in Voronezh, Bryansk, or bases in Crimea.

Currently, the JASSM is only compatible with US-designed aircraft, but efforts are being made to make the missile compatible with other Ukrainian fighter aircraft.

Kiev needs more powerful weapons to counter the growing pressure from Russian forces on Ukraine’s eastern front. JASSM is designed to be difficult to detect on radar and capable of flying close to the ground, avoiding air defenses.

Providing JASSM could force the US to lift restrictions on the weapon's use, as without permission for use inside Russia, the missile's effectiveness would be limited.

Each JASSM missile carries a large, highly accurate warhead, with an advanced guidance system that helps it reach its target even when heavily jammed.
