This morning, September 6, E Hospital announced that doctors at the hospital's Cardiovascular Center had just saved the life of a victim of a serious work accident that caused a ruptured aorta in the chest due to a car tire exploding during tire change.

Accordingly, the patient is a young man (18 years old, living in Ba Vi, Hanoi ) working at a car garage in Cau Giay district, Hanoi . While changing a car tire, after pumping it up, the victim sat on the tire to reinstall the tire valve cap when unfortunately the tire exploded. The young man was hit hard in the chest by the tire wall, fainted on the spot and was taken to a private hospital by his colleagues for emergency treatment. However, due to the severity of the injury, the victim was transferred to E Hospital for emergency treatment.

A male patient with a ruptured aorta due to a car tire explosion was saved by doctors at E Hospital.

Dr. Nguyen Hoang Nam, Department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery, E Hospital, said that the patient was admitted with severe chest pain, several bruises on the chest wall in the middle of the sternum and had to be given oxygen. After taking an X-ray, the doctors suspected that the victim had an aortic injury that required emergency treatment, so they immediately transferred him to the Cardiovascular Center.

Immediately, the victim underwent an echocardiogram and a chest CT scan to accurately assess the injuries caused by chest trauma. The results showed that the victim had a ruptured aortic coarctation after the injury. After consultation, the doctors determined that this was an emergency case requiring urgent surgery, so they decided to perform surgical intervention by placing an endovascular stent-graft with a membrane from the femoral artery up to cover the ruptured aortic coarctation, with a window for the left subclavian artery. After the intervention, the patient's hemodynamic status and vital signs were controlled.

Doctor Nguyen Hoang Nam shared that aortic rupture is rare and very dangerous. It can occur in accidents with great impact on the chest such as car accidents or falls from heights. If aortic rupture is not treated promptly, the risk of death in the first 6 hours is 24% and up to 50% in 24 hours with severe injuries. For aortic injuries, choosing the endovascular intervention method, placing a stent-graft, can cover the entire lesion without the need for open surgery, helping the patient recover faster.

Currently, this male patient's health is stable and will be discharged from the hospital as soon as possible.

The aortic isthmus is the most vulnerable site because the aortic isthmus is the junction between the fixed part, the aortic arch, and the mobile part, the descending aorta.
