International Media Engagement Strategy Signing Event

Recently, the military magazine Army Recognition published an analysis of the agreement between Viettel High Tech and John Cockerill Defense, considering it a typical example of transnational cooperation in the context of increasingly strengthening Vietnam-France relations.

The article emphasizes the complementarity between Viettel High Tech's experience in electronic warfare, sensors, and system integration with John Cockerill Defense's turret design and manufacturing capabilities and global marketing network.

The article is based on cooperation information announced in May 2025, at the French Embassy in Hanoi , Viettel High Technology Industry Corporation (Viettel High Tech - VHT) and John Cockerill Defense officially signed a Framework Cooperation Agreement (FPA) to establish long-term cooperation in the development, production and trading of advanced land defense systems, oriented towards export.

Assessing the business opportunity to expand the international market, Mr. Thierry Renaudin - CEO of John Cockerill Defense said that in the context of a volatile world , countries must ensure self-defense capabilities, in which high-quality defense equipment is an essential factor.

This is both an opportunity and a challenge, requiring Viettel High Tech and John Cockerill Defense to jointly develop modern technology products at competitive costs.

Viettel High Tech and John Cockerill Defense signed a Cooperation Framework Agreement establishing long-term cooperation in the development, production and trading of advanced, export-oriented land-based defense systems.

Army Recognition cites this argument to prove that Vietnamese enterprises do not only supply components but also actively control the high-tech value chain. The article assesses that Viettel's infrastructure, production capacity and export ambitions are in line with the strategy of deploying a modular weapons platform that John Cockerill Defense is pursuing.

Affirming Viettel's capabilities through the lens of Army Recognition

Army Recognition stated that in the defense sector, Viettel has researched and produced more than 60 products in 10 technology groups: communication systems, radar, electronic warfare, UAVs... Army Recognition devoted many lines to listing these capabilities, saying that they reflect the army's efforts to modernize equipment and the potential for global commercialization. With Viettel's experience in electronic warfare, sensors and system integration, it is the missing piece for John Cockerill Defense to complete the next-generation armored vehicle solution.

For more than two decades, Army Recognition has provided military news, analysis, and equipment databases to readers in more than 150 countries. The publication is a frequent reference for military professionals, manufacturers, and agencies worldwide.

The fact that Army Recognition devoted significant space to the Viettel-John Cockerill event shows the level of interest the international defense media has in Vietnam's industrial capacity.

The magazine cited Viettel’s capabilities three times, from radar, UAVs to electronic warfare, and concluded that this partnership reflects the trend of international cooperation to enhance competitiveness, promote technology transfer, and consolidate the bilateral industrial base. This assessment indirectly affirms Viettel’s position in the global arms value chain.

The magazine used the terms “experience” and “technology ownership” to describe Viettel, placing the Vietnamese enterprise on par with its European counterparts in terms of R&D capacity.

The Viettel-John Cockerill deal reflects a trend of defense companies of different nationalities cooperating to increase competitiveness and shorten supply chains.

The Viettel-John Cockerill deal reflects a trend of defense companies from different nationalities teaming up to increase competitiveness and shorten supply chains. In the long term, the partnership is expected to create co-developed systems that meet the changing needs of armed forces in a variety of operational environments.

In summary, through Army Recognition's analysis, Viettel's capabilities are emphasized at two levels: technical capabilities and system capabilities. The fact that a prestigious international defense publication highly appreciates Viettel further reinforces the evidence that Vietnamese enterprises have entered the ranks of high-tech defense solution providers in the global market./.\
