The Russian Energy Ministry on April 9 denied information that Moscow was asking the Kazakh government to transfer more than 100,000 tons of gasoline to Russia.

“The information from Reuters sources is incorrect and shows a complete lack of understanding of how motor fuels are balanced in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU),” the ministry told Russian state news agency TASS.

The Russian Energy Ministry noted that Kazakhstan itself is receiving gasoline from Russia, and Moscow has guaranteed to supply Astana with up to 285,000 tons of gasoline in 2024 even during the period when the Russian government imposed a fuel export ban. Moreover, Russian gasoline is still being delivered to Kazakhstan.

Even despite the ban on gasoline exports, Russia fully complies with the terms of contracts for the supply of motor fuel to friendly countries, the press service of the Russian Energy Ministry stressed.

Earlier, on April 8, Reuters quoted three industry sources as saying that Moscow had asked Astana to be ready to supply 100,000 tons of gasoline to Russia in case the shortage became more severe due to Ukrainian drone attacks on Russian oil refining infrastructure.

Drone attacks had knocked out about 14% of Russia's main oil refining capacity by the end of March, Reuters reported .
