Russia bans 92 more Americans from entering the country, including many journalists

A statement from the Russian Foreign Ministry said the ban was imposed “in response to the anti-Russian rhetoric” of the US administration. The banned journalists represented “leading global publications involved in the production and dissemination of ‘fake news’ about Russia and the Russian armed forces,” the report said.

The new list of banned Americans includes 11 current or former employees of the Wall Street Journal — including Editor-in-Chief Emma Tucker.

Ms. Tucker has repeatedly criticized Russia over the arrest and conviction on espionage charges of WSJ reporter Evan Gershkovich, who was held for 16 months before being released in August in a prisoner swap.

The ban also applies to five New York Times journalists, including Kiev bureau chief Andrew Kramer and four journalists from The Washington Post.

Among those banned from entering Russia are senior officials such as Air Force General Stephen Whiting, Air Force Systems Command Commander Philip Garrant and Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Air Force Policy John Plumb.

Other Americans on the list include people working for law enforcement agencies, academics, and figures in businesses and research institutes. According to the Russian Foreign Ministry list, Moscow has banned more than 2,000 Americans from entering the country.
