President Putin made the statement in a speech marking Russia's Defender of the Fatherland Day (February 23), a day after the leader boarded a Tu-160M nuclear-capable supersonic bomber, according to Reuters.
The Tu-160M, like the one he just flew, can carry 12 cruise missiles or 12 short-range nuclear missiles and can fly 12,000 km without refueling.

The Kremlin chief asserted that Russia's nuclear triad, which includes land, air and sea-based capabilities, is upgraded and functioning well.
"Combined with real combat experience, we will continue to strengthen the armed forces in every possible way, including ongoing rearmament and modernization efforts," according to President Putin.
The Russian leader said that the process of upgrading and equipping the strategic nuclear forces is 95% complete, while the naval branch of the nuclear triad is almost 100% complete.
Mr Putin also said that Russia had started mass production of the Zircon hypersonic missile line and that a new, unnamed strike system had been tested.
Russia has added new strategic submarines to its navy, and four supersonic nuclear bombers have just been delivered to the Russian Air Force.
"Next, we develop and mass produce promising lines of weapons, integrating artificial intelligence technology into the military field," according to the leader.
