Reuters news agency quoted Ukraine's announcement that the country's air defenses shot down 6 Kh-101 cruise missiles during this attack. In particular, the Ukrainian Air Force stated: "An intercontinental ballistic missile was launched from the Astrakhan region of Russia."

The announcement did not specify what type of intercontinental ballistic missile was launched. According to Reuters , this is the first time Moscow has used such a powerful long-range missile in combat.

The Ukrainian Air Force said the attack targeted businesses and key infrastructure in the eastern-central Ukrainian city of Dnipro, but did not specify what the targets were or whether it caused damage.

This type of missile has a range of thousands of kilometers and can be used to carry nuclear warheads, although it can also carry conventional warheads.

The attack came after Ukraine used US ATACMS and British Storm Shadow missiles to strike targets inside Russian territory this week, a move that Moscow has warned for months would be seen as a serious escalation.

Earlier the same day, Ukrainian sources warned of the possibility of the Russian military using the RS-26 Rubezh intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) with a conventional warhead to attack targets on the country's territory.

According to these sources, the RS-26 missile has great speed and power, with a warhead weighing 1.2 tons. According to experts, information about the possibility of using the RS-26 may be part of the information war. However, with a significant range, such weapons are still considered a real threat to Kiev.

Russia has not commented on the information. Meanwhile, the city of Akhtubinsk in the Astrakhan province of Russia has issued a warning about the risk of attacks by unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

According to preliminary information, the target could be an airbase in the region deploying fifth-generation Su-57 fighters.
