On July 1, Russia announced a permanent entry ban on 99 Canadian citizens, while rejecting Donald Trump's statement that he would resolve the conflict in Ukraine in just one day if he was re-elected as US president.

On July 1, the Russian Foreign Ministry issued a statement stating: "Imposing a permanent entry ban on 99 Canadian citizens, who are involved in the development and implementation of Ottawa's anti-Moscow policies, as a countermeasure."

Xinhua news agency quoted the ministry's statement as also affirming that the ban is not aimed at ordinary Canadians, because Russia clearly distinguishes the current political elite from the people of this North American country.

Meanwhile, on the same day, Russian Ambassador to the United Nations Vassily Nebenzia "poured cold water" on the frequent statements made by US presidential candidate Donald Trump that he could end the Russia-Ukraine conflict within 24 hours if re-elected in the November election.

According to Reuters news agency, at a press conference marking the beginning of Russia's term as President of the United Nations Security Council in July, Ambassador Nebenzia said: "The crisis in Ukraine cannot be resolved in one day."

During a live debate with US President Joe Biden last week, Mr. Trump claimed to be able to resolve the Russia-Ukraine conflict as President-elect before taking office on January 20, 2025.

The former US President has not given any details about his plan to resolve the Ukraine conflict, but has often made such confident statements.

On November 5, American voters will go to the polls to elect the next President of the United States.

The election outcome is important for both Russia and Ukraine, as it will determine the extent of Washington's commitment to continuing to support Kiev against Moscow.
