Dozens of drones were reported to have targeted several Russian regions on the night of September 1, including Moscow, Tver, Voronezh, Tula, Kaluga, Bryansk, Belgorod, Lipetsk and Kursk, according to local officials. The Russian Defense Ministry claimed to have shot down 158 drones overnight.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said at least nine drones were shot down in the Russian capital region. One of the drones was reportedly destroyed near the Moscow oil refinery. One of the refinery’s buildings was damaged and a fire was discovered after the attack, Russia’s Ria Novosti news agency reported.

The refinery, owned by Gazprom Neft, part of gas giant Gazprom, is located southeast of Moscow.

Russian media said firefighters arrived at the refinery in Kapotnya after reports of a fire.

“There was a report of a fire at the oil refinery in Kapotnya. Firefighters are on their way to the scene, the evacuation is being carried out according to the fifth level of complexity,” a source told TASS news agency.

The Baza Telegram news channel, which has close ties to Russia's security services, reported that loud explosions were heard near the Konakovo power plant in the Tver region, one of the largest energy producers in central Russia.

At least three drones are believed to have targeted the Kashira power plant in the Moscow region, according to Mikhail Shuvalov, head of the Kashira city district. He said the attack did not cause any fires, damage or casualties.

In addition, about 34 drones were shot down in the Bryansk region of southwestern Russia, the region's governor, Alexander Bogomaz, said via his official Telegram channel.

The region governors said in a Telegram post that more than 10 drones were destroyed over the Voronezh region and several others were shot down over the Lipetsk, Kaluga, Ryazan and Tula regions.

The region's acting governor, Aleksei Smirnov, said two more were also shot down in the Kursk region, which is now partly controlled by Ukraine.

As Kiev’s offensive in Kursk province entered its fourth week, Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi said on August 27 that Ukraine was believed to have taken control of more than 1,290 square kilometers (500 square miles) and 100 settlements. Officials said there were no reports of casualties or damage there, according to preliminary information.

In Belgorod Oblast, about 14 drones were reportedly shot down. Several homes, cars and commercial properties were damaged after repelling the aerial attack, according to regional governor Vyacheslav Gladkov.
