In her old age, the life of Cai Luong artist Thanh The is quite difficult. She and her family rent a house near the cemetery to reduce living expenses, but still accept shows to make ends meet.

Artist Thanh Lien said: “Doctors are stumped about my mother’s case. If she can’t sleep, they can only buy medicine to improve her mental state, but they can’t cure her.” Artist Thanh The also confided: “If I have medicine, I can sleep, otherwise I’ll stay awake.”

Although forgetful, the wife of the late artist Buu Truyen still knows classic plays by heart.
