Research on investment in solar power projects at airports

Solar power projects invested in our country's airports will be in line with the direction of green energy conversion and sustainable development.

The Ministry of Construction has just sent a document to the Vietnam Airports Corporation (ACV) regarding the development of solar energy sources at airports nationwide.

Assessing that Vietnam has not yet issued a system of regulations and standards related to the design, installation, acceptance and maintenance of solar power systems at airports, the Ministry of Construction requested ACV to research, refer to standards, regulations and practical guidelines of reputable countries and international organizations, and propose specific solutions as a legal basis for implementing solar power projects at airports.

The Ministry of Construction suggested that ACV refer to international experience and domestic practices and soon have a report assessing the safety and impact of installing solar panels on rooftops on flight operations.

Previously, ACV sent a document requesting the Ministry of Construction and the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam to consider and approve the investment policy for solar power projects at airports.

Recognizing the potential for exploiting solar power at airports as feasible, ACV has had assessment results showing that installing solar panels on the roof does not affect the exploitation and aviation safety, helps reduce electricity costs, contributes to cooling the building by reducing roof heat, and at the same time, developing this renewable energy source is very necessary and urgent in the current period./.
