During a six-day fishing trip in the Cape Verdes Islands in the Atlantic Ocean, three South African fishermen, Steve Andrews, Ryan Williamson and Ben Vorster, caught a blue marlin that weighed about 620 kg and measured 3.6 meters long, twice the length of an adult man. They never imagined they would catch such a large fish.

The "giant" fish weighs 620kg.

Ben Vorster, a member of the group, shared his memorable experience. Early in the morning, as he was casting his bait, he suddenly noticed a large creature taking the bait. Immediately, he jumped into position and began a seemingly "unequal" tug-of-war with the giant fish.

"When the fish took the bait, it jumped out of the water so quickly that we didn't have time to get an idea of its size," Andrews added.

Pictures taken by fishermen show the fish is extremely large, looking like it came out of a science fiction movie, according to the Daily Star. It took the fishermen 30 minutes to get the giant blue marlin onto the boat using specialized equipment. When they returned to the dock, they measured the fish and confirmed that it was 3.6 meters long and weighed about 620 kg. Its tail fin alone was nearly 1 meter wide. The width of the fish's tail fin is shocking.

While the fishermen were proud of their catch, they were disappointed to see that the fish fell just short of the previous record. The largest Atlantic blue marlin ever caught weighed 636 kg (1,400 lb), and was caught by angler Paulo Amorim off the coast of Brazil in 1992.
