The boy in this touching story is Chuan Zhuyu, who just graduated from high school in Tengchong City, Yunnan Province, China. Chuan's impressive college entrance exam score of 624/750 points is a consolation and encouragement for his father who has devotedly taken care of him all these years.
Chuan suffered from a neuromuscular disorder since he was a child, and gradually became disabled and unable to walk on his own. Chuan's father was a farmer, but he understood the importance of knowledge for his son with many physical limitations. Therefore, he patiently carried Chuan to school every day for the past 12 years.
According to Ms. Li Qiuyan, Chuan's homeroom teacher, her father wakes up at 3 a.m. every day to work as a delivery boy at the wholesale market, then returns home to take his daughter to school. Every day, the father takes his daughter back and forth a total of four times.
In the morning, he took his son to school, picked him up at noon so he could eat and rest, took him back to school in the afternoon, and picked him up late in the afternoon after school. All those times, he carried his son on his back.
“The father of Chuan Zhuyu never asked for help from his son’s teachers or classmates to help pick him up and drop him off at school. He insisted on carrying his son to class himself to avoid any requests. It seemed that he was very reluctant to accept help from others,” said Ms. Li.
