Palestinians cannot recognize where they lived after Israeli troops left

Palestinians in the southern Gaza Strip were forced to flee their homes as Israeli forces bombed nearby areas. After the Israeli army announced its withdrawal from the town of Khan Younis, many returned on April 8 to unrecognizable places where they had lived.

Last December, the Israeli military launched a ground operation in Khan Younis as part of a response to a Hamas attack on southern Israel on October 7, 2023. According to the Guardian.
The city has been under constant attack since December 2023, and has been under siege since the Israeli army launched a campaign to hunt down Hamas bases, according to the Guardian.
The war between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip has now entered its seventh month. According to Gaza health authorities, the fighting has killed more than 33,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children. According to the Guardian.
