Spokesperson talks about Vietnam's re-election to the Human Rights Council

(NLDO)- Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang emphasized that Vietnam is committed to promoting the implementation of the common goals of the United Nations Human Rights Council.


On the afternoon of December 19, at the regular press conference of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, answering reporters' questions about the Vietnamese Delegation to the United Nations (UN - New York) holding the Ceremony to announce Vietnam's re-election to the UN Human Rights Council for the 2026-2028 term, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pham Thu Hang said:

On December 12, at the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the United Nations in New York (USA), Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Do Hung Viet announced Vietnam's re-election to the UN Human Rights Council for the 2026-2028 term.

Based on Vietnam's consistent policy and strong commitment, efforts and achievements in protecting and promoting human rights as well as increasing participation and contributions to multilateral forums, Vietnam is assuming the position of a member of the UN Human Rights Council for the 2023-2025 term with many imprints and initiatives in the spirit of: Respect and understanding, dialogue and cooperation for all human rights for all people in 8 priority areas, recognized and highly appreciated by the international community.

According to the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in the first two years of the 2023-2025 term, Vietnam has also actively fulfilled its membership responsibilities, including participating in the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) cycle IV and welcoming the UN Special Rapporteur on the right to development to visit Vietnam with very positive results. These are extremely important foundations for Vietnam to continue to run for membership of the UN Human Rights Council for the 2026-2028 term.

"I would like to emphasize that Vietnam's candidacy affirms the continuation of its positive contributions, strong commitment and willingness to contribute to the common efforts of the international community. Vietnam believes that with the successes it has achieved, countries will continue to support Vietnam's candidacy for the upcoming term. We pledge to promote Vietnam's active, constructive and responsible role in promoting the implementation of the common goals of the UN Human Rights Council and ensuring better and better enjoyment of rights for all people around the world," Ms. Pham Thu Hang affirmed.
