On July 3, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health reported a serious medical incident that was discovered and promptly intervened by Cho Ray Hospital. However, Kangnam Saigon Cosmetic Hospital did not report the medical incident according to the regulations of the Ministry of Health .
On June 30, the Department of Health Inspectorate, the medical professional department and the Tan Binh District Health Department inspected and clarified the contents reflected at Kangnam Saigon Cosmetic Hospital, address 666 Cach Mang Thang Tam, Ward 5, Tan Binh District.
On June 29, female patient VTH (47 years old) came to Kangnam Saigon Cosmetic Hospital for a check-up with the intention of reducing fat and excess skin in the abdominal area.
The patient had a general examination, paraclinical examination, pre-anesthesia examination, and pre-operative consultation.
At 12 o'clock the same day, the patient was given endotracheal anesthesia by the TTNP doctor and underwent full abdominoplasty combined with liposuction by the HQH doctor.
After more than 4 hours of surgery, at 5:00 p.m. the same day, the patient was extubated and transferred to the plastic surgery department for further treatment.
More than 1 day after surgery, the patient complained of fatigue, difficulty breathing, and the condition gradually worsened. The hospital initiated an internal red alert and contacted Cho Ray Hospital to request professional support.
The patient was transferred to Cho Ray Hospital by ambulance. After emergency intervention, the patient's condition temporarily stabilized.
During the inspection on July 1, the Inspector of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health requested the hospital director to temporarily suspend surgery and procedures on doctor HQH until there is a conclusion from the professional agency.
On July 2, at the meeting, the director of the Department of Health directed the Department Inspectorate to issue a document requesting the director of Kangnam Saigon Cosmetic Hospital to seriously learn from experience in not reporting mandatory medical incidents as prescribed.
At the same time, the hospital is required to hold a meeting to analyze root causes, professional errors, etc., review and evaluate the conditions and capacity of practitioners, facilities, equipment, medical supplies, and compliance with professional regulations and technical procedures of practitioners.
The Department of Health requested the hospital to report the incident and take corrective measures to ensure patient safety related to surgery and procedures.
