Nguyen Filip expressed his views very frankly.

“When I was in the Czech Republic, the goal of all players was to play abroad, to play in top leagues. But in Vietnam, it is different. Most players want to play domestically. From what I observed, only about 5 players wanted to play abroad. For me, it was a little shock,” goalkeeper Nguyen Filip of the Hanoi Police Club and the Vietnam national team recently participated in the At The Top podcast on YouTube channel 28Unique.

Nguyen Filip frankly said: "But thinking back, I also understand. The players have everything here. They don't have to learn another language if they only play football in Vietnam, right? In addition, the players want to stay here because they are big stars, with very stable income. When these things happen, some people will not like it. I expected that. I find it normal and affirm that I do not intend to offend anyone. What I say comes from my own thoughts, with the desire to help Vietnamese football develop."

He shared his opinion: “I see many Vietnamese people, not just players, do not like to be criticized. They do not like you to point out their mistakes. There was a time when I shouted at my teammates during a match. In Europe, that is completely normal. But in the above case, some of them were upset and we argued. At that time, I replied: “Okay. If you do not want to improve yourself, it is not my business anymore. But just do your job in the match”. Or sometimes I see them pretending not to hear or understand what I said. Of course, no one likes to be criticized”, Nguyen Filip pondered.

Nguyen Filip names 3 disciplined and progressive teammates

“But if you want to be the best, to improve and rise, I think you need to listen. I don’t like being criticized either. But after every match, I always try to find mistakes to improve. Certainly, in competition, mistakes can happen. Suppose if we win 1-0, you will often hear things like: You played well, the result is okay. But when I see myself making a mistake, I will say: No, I am not satisfied with what I showed,” said the goalkeeper of the Vietnamese team.

Nguyen Filip affirmed that Vietnamese players lack ambition. He believes that this is a story of the surrounding environment. “When people treat you like a big star, even if you are only famous in Vietnam, you will think you are a famous name. But when you leave Vietnam, abroad, I believe no one knows who you are.”

Also in the conversation, Nguyen Filip pointed out 3 teammates who are always open-minded in their living, training and competing. They are Tuan Hai, Pham Minh Phuc and goalkeeper Do Sy Huy. “For me, there is the most professional player in Vietnam. That is Tuan Hai. I have observed him from the club to the national team. He is diligent in learning English because he wants to go abroad. I really admire that openness to learning,” Nguyen Filip concluded.
