Nguyen Thi Thu Huyen won silver medal at the 2024 Asian Youth Badminton Championship

On August 25, tennis player Nguyen Thi Thu Huyen (13 years old) helped Vietnamese badminton win the first Asian silver medal at the Asian Youth Badminton Championship U17 - U15, U15 age group.

To win a ticket to the final of the Asian Youth Badminton Championship U17 - U15, Nguyen Thi Thu Huyen had an impressive and convincing journey. In the semi-finals, she unexpectedly defeated a very strong Chinese opponent Liu Yutong. It was a dramatic and tense match. The Vietnamese player won first in the first set with a score of 21-18. Liu Yutong played well to win 21-17 in the second set, forcing the match to need a decisive third set. Here, Nguyen Thi Thu Huyen showed her mettle to defeat her opponent 21-17, winning a ticket to the final. Before that, the Vietnamese girl defeated Yu Jeong Jang (Korea), Shaina Manimuthu (India), Deng Ye Wen (China). In the final of the U15 age group, Huyen faced Indian opponent Tanvi Patri. This was a dream match when Patri was the number 1 seed, and Huyen was the number 2 seed of the tournament. Unfortunately, despite playing with great effort, the Vietnamese player lost after 2 sets with scores of 20-22, 11-21.

However, this result still helped Nguyen Thi Thu Huyen get the silver medal. According to Mr. Khoa Trung Kien, in charge of badminton (Department of Sports and Physical Training), this is the first time Vietnamese badminton has had an athlete reach the finals of an Asian-level tournament. This achievement is an encouragement for Vietnamese badminton in nurturing young talents, preparing for the future. Previously, Nguyen Thi Thu Huyen also participated in doubles with Pham Thanh Hang and reached the quarterfinals.
The 2024 Asian Youth Badminton Championship U17 - U15 will take place from August 20 to 25 in Chengdu, China. The tournament will feature the following events: women's singles, men's singles, men's doubles, women's doubles, and mixed doubles in two age groups: U17 and U15.
