Preserving and promoting traditional cultural identity in the digital age

Towards the 100th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day (June 21, 1925 - June 21, 2025), the Government Youth Union recently held a ceremony to honor outstanding young journalists in 2025. At the ceremony, many young faces were honored for their outstanding achievements in their careers, innovative spirit and positive contributions to the work of the Union and youth movements.

As one of the 50 young journalists honored, journalist Nguyen Sy Hong - Deputy Head of the Economic and Entrepreneurial Department, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union of the Vietnam Law Newspaper shared: "In reality, the young journalists, union members, and youth of the Vietnam Law Newspaper are typical representatives of a generation of young people who live with ideals and goals, wholeheartedly following the Party, ready to go anywhere, present in difficult places to carry out assigned tasks, and dedicate themselves to finding the truth to serve society.

The mutual relationship under the leadership and direction of the Party Committee to the young journalists, union members and youth will arouse a strong vitality that is concretely demonstrated through the organization of movements and campaigns in many fields such as: Building new rural areas, civilized urban areas, environmental protection, responding to climate change, preventing and combating epidemics and natural disasters, social security, ensuring order and traffic safety. Especially preventing and combating corruption, negativity and waste through journalistic works that are methodically and elaborately edited and published daily by the young team of journalists of Vietnam Law .

In the coming time, young journalists of Vietnam Law Newspaper will continue to organize the study and implementation of Directive No. 42-CT/TW of the Central Party Secretariat on "Strengthening the Party's leadership in educating revolutionary ideals, ethics, and cultural lifestyle for the young generation in the period of 2015 - 2030" and Directive No. 05-CT/TW dated May 15, 2016 of the Politburo on "Promoting the study and following of Ho Chi Minh's ideology, ethics, and lifestyle". Implement plans and instructions from the Party Committee and the Editorial Board of Vietnam Law Newspaper for youth development... From there, to affirm the role and mission of the young generation of Vietnam Law Newspaper in preserving and promoting traditional cultural identity in the digital age and being pioneers and creative in the work of the Youth Union and youth movements associated with the implementation of the agency's political tasks. Be proactive and proactive in advising and implementing difficult tasks to promote youth creativity.

Get into the commentary genre

Also one of the 50 young journalists honored this time, Mr. Tran Duc Anh - Vietnam Law Newspaper did not choose the easy path, but early on determined that the path he would pursue would be commentary and political articles - a journalism genre that requires solid knowledge, sharp thinking and a clear stance. While most young people love fast, accessible genres such as field reports, video news, social network interactions, etc., Tran Duc Anh quietly chose to go against the flow: "Writing commentary is an unpleasant challenge, because I cannot avoid expressing my opinion. And that opinion must be formed from a foundation of understanding, from being deeply immersed in reality."

For him, commentary and political commentary are not just a genre of journalism, but a thinking tool. It forces the writer to observe carefully, analyze deeply and write with all his responsibility to the public. “Commentary writers are not allowed to be half-hearted. My articles are not just for readers to know, but for readers to understand - even change their perception,” Duc Anh shared. Therefore, for him, writing political commentary is not about showing off a one-sided stance, but the art of balancing between emotion and reason, between truth and depth of thought.

In today's journalism context, when social media creates the illusion that anyone can write and express their opinions, commentators must maintain their role as "people who guide public opinion with reason and persuasion".

Write correctly, write thoughtfully, write deeply with civic responsibility

At the 2025 Young Journalists Award Ceremony, many sincere and inspiring sharings were heard from those who are contributing to the new look of Revolutionary Journalism in the digital age. In that flow, journalist Hoang Nguyen Thao - reporter of Cong Thuong Newspaper - brought a special perspective on the mission of writers in the economic field.

“For us, as journalists of Industry and Trade, we have a dual mission, both as journalists and as economic storytellers of a country that is transforming strongly in the international era, in innovation and in the global supply chain” - journalist Hoang Nguyen Thao emphasized.

Our young reporters have had the opportunity to interview many politicians and work in very difficult places such as the recent floods and typhoon YAGI. Being trained in the great flow of current events, we consider it a privilege and the more opportunities we are given, the greater our responsibility becomes. Our young generation of journalists today enters the profession with many advantages. We can be good at technology, quick, creative, but at the same time we may have to face many challenges, such as fake news, spam, trends, headline grabbing, “clickbait”, or in a context of eroding trust. Therefore, our responsibility is to write correctly, write thoughtfully, write deeply and write with civic responsibility.

As a reporter who follows the "hot" field of environmental resources; has won a prestigious journalism award, young journalist Vo Manh Hung - Secretary of the Vietnamplus Youth Union, Vietnam News Agency believes that each journalist needs passion, alertness, legal knowledge and constant innovation to bring attractive journalistic works and create useful changes for the community and society. The "hot" issues require more responsibility, "clear mind, pure heart, sharp pen" and close adherence to the breath of life, strictly implementing the provisions of the law for writers.
