This is the second time writer Dong Tay has returned to Ho Chi Minh City after 10 years, since the book launch "Dream of a New Life" in 2016.
The exchange was attended by Mr. Tu Chau, Deputy Consulate General of China in Ho Chi Minh City; architect Nguyen Truong Luu, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Union of Literature and Arts Associations; writer Bich Ngan, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Writers Association; writer Bui Anh Tan, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Union of Literature and Arts Associations - Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Writers Association; writer Tram Huong, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Writers Association... and many artists of Ho Chi Minh City.
Writer Dongxi (real name Tian Dalin), born in 1966 in Guangxi, is a famous contemporary screenwriter in China. He is currently the President of the Guangxi Literature and Arts Association, President of the Guangxi Writers Association and teaches at Guangxi University for Nationalities.
He is the author of many famous novels published in Vietnam such as Dream of a Changed Life, The Slap of Heaven, Regret, Echo, Life Without Language... , Of which, the work Life Without Language was awarded the first Lu Xun Literature Prize, and the novel Echo was awarded the Mao Dun Literature Prize in 2023.
Answering writer Bich Ngan’s question about the secret to bringing literature to the world , writer Dong Tay shared a metaphor full of images: Writing is like cooking. If your dish is delicious, the aroma will naturally waft to your neighbors’ house and make them curious. Literature is the same – write well, write honestly, write from your own experiences and identity, then let’s share it with each other.
He believes that the important thing is that the work must be indigenous, containing the soul and spirit of the writer. Only then can literature transcend national boundaries to reach global readers.
Representative of the Chinese Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City, Mr. Tu Chau expressed his hope that the program will open up more opportunities for cooperation between the literary circles of Vietnam and China.
“I believe that the thoughts and works of Eastern and Western writers will spread strongly in the hearts of Vietnamese readers. At the same time, this connection will contribute to promoting people-to-people friendship and breathing new life into the literature of the two countries,” said Mr. Tu Chau, Deputy Consulate General of China in Ho Chi Minh City.
