Japan - New Zealand strengthen bilateral cooperation

The New Zealand Prime Minister is on a four-day visit to Japan from June 17. The focus of the trip is to promote trade and investment relations with Japan and build relationships with the country's leader.

Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio assessed that the strategic environment in the Indo- Pacific region is becoming increasingly challenging. Therefore, Japan and New Zealand need to strengthen their strategic cooperative partnership.

For his part, New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon emphasized that now is an important time for the two countries to enhance understanding, cooperation, and respond to common challenges in the region.

Prime Minister Luxon said he was also looking for opportunities for cooperation between New Zealand and Japan in areas such as economics , renewable energy and space science.

The two leaders concluded negotiations on an information security agreement and agreed to carry out activities to promote maritime security through joint exercises.
