Program to launch 35 years of HIV in Vietnam
The Ho Chi Minh City HIV/AIDS Prevention Association launched a communication campaign to celebrate the 35th anniversary of HIV in Vietnam on the evening of July 3. This is an activity in response to the National Action Month for HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control and 35 years of Vietnam's response to the HIV/AIDS pandemic.
Attending the program were Dr. Nguyen Luong Tam, Deputy Director of the Department of Disease Prevention, Ministry of Health ; Dr. Truong Xuan Lieu, former Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health; Dr. Le Truong Giang, Chairman of the Public Health Association; Dr. Tieu Thi Thu Van, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City HIV/AIDS Prevention Association.
Along with that are artists: People's Artist Kim Xuan, People's Artist Trinh Kim Chi, Meritorious Artist Tuyet Thu, Miss H'Hen Nie, Miss Bui Quynh Hoa, Runner-up Kim Duyen, Runner-up Thanh Ngan, MC - director Hai Trieu, director Thai Huynh, Runner-up - MC Quoc Tri, Saigon Tan Thoi Lotto Troupe...
Many artists stand with the community living with HIV
The program helps the community change its view of HIV from a “disease of the century” to a chronic disease that can be well controlled with medication and people with HIV can have a normal, stable life if they adhere to antiretroviral treatment; raise social awareness of HIV/AIDS, especially for key affected groups and vulnerable people; strengthen community connections, create opportunities to share, learn and support each other; towards the goal of ending the AIDS epidemic in Vietnam by 2030.
After nearly 10 years of accompanying the community living with HIV, Miss H'Hen Nie is happy that this program is held at a shopping mall, demonstrating the openness and sharing of the community so that the program can reach more people.
"At first, I had a lot of difficulties because I didn't have much knowledge, but the more I went, the more I understood, and the more I spread and shared my spirit," said H'Hen Nie.
Miss H'Hen Nie has been actively participating in HIV/AIDS prevention propaganda activities for nearly 10 years.
Also with more than 10 years of companionship, People's Artist Trinh Kim Chi shared: "In the past, when talking about HIV, everyone was scared, but now everything is normal when people have a lot of knowledge about HIV. I can talk, shake hands, hug them, and share with them. Chi knows a colleague who has HIV and that person sees this as normal. They have the knowledge to control the disease and not transmit it to others."
Mr. Nguyen Anh Phong, Vice President of the Ho Chi Minh City HIV/AIDS Prevention Association, said, “Everyone should be less afraid of the disease, less afraid of contact, do not limit the opportunity to access services for people living with HIV, especially that it is an opportunity for them to live well, live healthy, contribute to the community and society. Among them, there are young people, people at high risk, so that they know how to prevent”.

Since the first HIV case was detected in 1990, the HIV/AIDS prevention program in Vietnam has developed a lot, with policies and awareness campaigns.
Since the beginning of 2025, according to the report of the Department of Disease Prevention, the country has recorded 4,586 new HIV infections and 527 deaths. The number of people living with HIV is 249,962 cases, the total number of people with HIV who have died is 116,531 cases. Vietnam has made much progress in controlling the epidemic, including expanding the ARV treatment program and health insurance for people with HIV.
