Remembering the first class of reporters in Quang Nam - Da Nang province

In early 1982, a training course for reporters and editors was organized by the Quang Nam - Da Nang Provincial Radio Station in collaboration with the Central Propaganda School II - Da Nang (now the Regional Political Academy III). This was the first training course for reporters and editors in the former Quang Nam - Da Nang.

The Central Propaganda School II at that time was located in District 3, Da Nang City, on Nguyen Cong Tru Street going down to My Khe Beach. The students of the Central Propaganda School II at that time were leaders or cadres who were sent from the Central Highlands provinces, most of them were old and mature.

As for us, except for one or two older guys who had worked in government agencies, the rest were all young faces, fresh out of high school.

In the 1980s, during the difficult subsidy period, but with the attention of the old Quang Nam - Da Nang Radio Station, especially Director Nguyen Quynh (now deceased), our class had 32 students who were given priority to eat a standard of 13kg of rice/person/month according to the regime. Accommodation was 4 people/room with full amenities, the same standards as the students who were source cadres studying here at that time.

In the curriculum, in addition to political lessons taught by lecturers from the Central Propaganda School II, we also learned and practiced quite systematically how to make news, write articles, stories about “Good people, good deeds”, how to build radio programs; the position and role of district-level radio stations, etc.

Our class was fortunate to receive enthusiastic guidance from journalists Doan Huu Tu - former Head of Vietnam News Agency's Da Nang Branch; Hong Duc - former Deputy Head of the Professional Department of Quang Nam - Da Nang Radio Station (formerly) and many other veteran journalists.

The class was also fortunate to hear some famous intellectuals of that time talk about current events and science such as Professor Phan Phai, Professor Tran Van Khe, etc. Then we had the opportunity to do internships in many places, the most memorable of which was the internship at Hoa Chau Agricultural Cooperative (Hoa Vang District, Da Nang City).

In 1983, the first class of reporters in Quang Nam - Da Nang (old) spread out everywhere, some went to the provincial station, the rest went to work in all the districts and towns in Quang Nam - Da Nang province at that time.

43 years have passed, many people in that class from graduation are still enthusiastic about journalism until retirement age such as Mr. Dang An (Thang Binh), Ms. Ngoc Anh (Phuoc Son), Hoang Ngoc (Tam Ky), Van Son (Nong Son), Tong Huong, Kim Anh, Huynh My... (Da Nang City).

There were people who left the journalism profession to do other jobs such as Ms. Nguyen Thi Hang, Le Thi Hay (Dai Loc), Tran Thi Bo (Tam Ky), Mr. Hoanh, Ms. Lien (Thang Binh) and there were also people who went far away... In later meetings, the journalism class members of that time had gray hair but the feelings were still as warm as before.
